@Cocoron reminds me of an old (late 80s IIRC) interview with one of the Japanese directors involved with Macross. Asked if he thought a shower scene and on screen deaths were appropriate in a show aimed at teens his answer was in part that he thought the GI Joe cartoon on American TV was far more obscene because every episode carried the message, "Wars have no consequences. No deaths, no civilians harmed, not even so much as a stubbed toe."
