in hindsight it's really not hard to see why the free software movement has basically failed, it's a mostly libertarian ethos that is insanely easy for corporate powers to coopt and subvert, and the adjacent expectation that a random person would dry their dick out reading the source code for libfuckyourmom or whatever is completely asinine. this isn't to say proprietary is any better, far from it, and i vastly prefer free alternatives when available and useful just from the standpoint of being an advanced computer user with very specific needs, but as an ideological movement to influence the future of computing FOSS is a complete dead end
