I want to continue to be a good friend to my friends who have children. I do not get it, but I’m glad when my friends do things that make them happy. However, I really really hate like... being around or hearing about children or parenting and idk how to remain close to people when they make that the main thing about themselves.

Has anyone preemptively gotten their IUD replaced in case we’re not able to access them in the future?

Mine is about 4 years old so it’s near the end of its lifespan. Without hormonal BC, I basically bleed constantly, so it’s prettt much non-negotiable for me to have one. The insertion process is rough though, so idk 😑

I’m from a part of Houston that is mostly known for being dangerous, and I kind of take joy in meeting other people “from Houston” who are from the burbs and like, visibly recoil when I say I’m from Sharpstown.

Also, I have crisis intervention training, so what is available to me in a situation like that is in some ways more than other folks, but also my own trauma and the vicarious trauma from social work can send me into a freeze with things like this. Talking about it so I have more ideas ready next time.

There is a mobile crisis intervention team in my city, but this happened too fast for me to have time to call them and for them to respond.

Earlier today, I saw a young white man curse at and berate an older seemingly houseless woman, basically just for walking by his house.

It was scary. I was worried that intervening would escalate the situation, bc he was super aggressive.

I stayed nearby with my phone ready to record, until she walked away and he stopped yelling.

I’m still thinking about it a lot. Anything else I maybe could have done that would have been Actually Helpful?
