@SuzanEraslan I'm totally not disagreeing with you, but how do you distribute these items freely and without waste? One benefit of paying earnt money for food etc is people don't waste it excessively-well, poorer people don't.
I've heard stories from when the totally free NHS UK health service was set up in 1948 of people getting drawers full of free glasses because they were free at last.
@blankideogram @SuzanEraslan Besides the issue that this story about drawers full of free glasses is citation free and sounds like an urban myth, if your worst case scenario is that people get more free stuff than they can easily organize, I can accept that. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@blankideogram @SuzanEraslan It’s also pretty classist to accept the fact that under capitalism the wealthy have more boats and houses than they could ever possibly need but a poor person having a drawer full of glasses is a cause for concern.
@rotatingskull @blankideogram @SuzanEraslan
The "drawers of free glasses" was caused more by delays and logistical problems and only occured for a few years in late 1940s/1950s.
The link below is where the story comes from..
Nowadays (especially if you are as short sighted as I am) you get an electronic voucher towards your spectacles and can choose a wider variety of frames, ironically the "uncool" NHS types are now fashionable again!
@blankideogram I have *an* answer to this, but it isn't a definitive one (I kind of feel like defining distribution for everyone would be me taking on the role of an authority and the state, which I am very much against), but my general thoughts are like... Just let everything be free, and let people sort it out. If someone is takes drawers full of glasses, and that means others don't get glasses, perhaps we have people just ask them to give up some glasses to those in need? Seems pretty simple.
