every day im increasingly convinced that the best and indeed the only way to learn to do something, is to do it, and keep doing it as much as you can
@cosine There is a lot of scientific research that backs up this as true. More importantly you get good at what what you do many times over. Insult people many times, you get good at it. Tell the truth many times, get good at it. You can get good at lots of things you might not realise. Things that you might not like: blaming people (I do that) wriggling out of responsibilities, etc. Life is like a muscle. Repetition in something makes you stronger at it.
@cosine That sounded overly negative. Also helping people, listening to them, leading them. All these things get better with practice. I donβt know of anything in life that doesnβt get easier/better with practice.
@cosine yup, that's what works for me
@cosine my usual caveat ( coming from the land of "learn to do by doing" ) on that is that, like,...
if you haven't reviewed the literature and stuff --- especially for anything life-and-safety related --- yer probably not actually "doing," exactly.
like, learn to do by doing doesn't, and shouldn't, mean "don't stand on the shoulders of giants," or "first principles all the things."
but with that caveat.... yeah, π―%
@cosine How to learn shit:
Try it, fuck it up, try it again
