@beadsland Please, inform me of all options you have!
For me, 4 axes determine my experience of a social network:
People Centric <-> Content Centric
Interpersonal <-> Broadcasting
Voting <-> No voting
Small or Divided <-> Big or Unified
Masto is 0.2,0.9,1.0,0.5 IMO. I want a replacement for reddit so closer to 1,1,0,0.3

@cosine Don't know of anything. Never found voting side of the axis all that interesting.

That said, I could easily imagine a federated alternative built atop the same sort of architecture as Mastodon. You've got posts, replies, upvotes and a primitive namespace (hashtags). Just incorporate downvotes, and maybe optional namespace moderation, and the rest is just how the UX presents threading within each namespace.

@beadsland
I love what your putting out! TBH I never really cared that much about federation. It's very cool, but I just want a darn social network that runs free software.
However voting I do care very much about! As much as curating a followers list of only the coolest™ people™ ever™ is fun, there are some times when I just want to see stuff that some hive mind agrees is interesting without weeding out the misses. It makes me feel cozy.
(Ok but tbh I just gotta scratch that reddit itch!)

@cosine Sounds like a programming challenge worth pursing.

The advantage of federation is that you get past the silo trap. Sure, an instance might be all socialism. Another instance might be all tech, but the "hive mind" wouldn't be limited to any given instance.
