Woman who designed #Florida's #COVID19 dashboard has been removed from her position
"As a word of caution, I would not expect the new team to continue the same level of accessibility and transparency that I made central to the process during the first two months. After all, my commitment to both is largely (arguably entirely) the reason I am no longer managing it."
in case anyone needs some encouragement today or this week: its okay to suck and not do shit right. like, you're literally a person hurtling through the cosmos on a weird rock and on the level, everyone is fucking up, all the time. people that look perfect just fuck up quieter. they're a fucking mess but not proud enough to claim it.
perfectionism is a tool of capitalism. fucking up and just owning to fucking up is punk as shit. be a loser today and come out swinging when you feel better.
"There are over 1.5 million workers at Walmart who are trying to get ahead. But they have nowhere to turn during this crisis. Hundreds of thousands of part-timers like me are feeling especially squeezed.
That’s why, when I heard that giant corporations like Walmart, Amazon and McDonald’s were going to be exempt from federally mandated paid sick and family leave for workers hit by the coronavirus, it felt like a gut punch."
there were like two non-shit questions, are just all german journalists shit?
lol like all the journalists ask the most shitty questions with the most fucked up framing
well all the data from germany doesn't look that promising to be honest, but lets just open everything again, yay https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DESUQMKzmhc
Across East Africa, many weather stations have recorded the highest amounts of rainfall in 40 years or even since the start of records, says WMO regional climate centre @icpac_igad, which is issuing new #flood alerts for Somalia and Ethiopia
"The Nazi party didn't come to power due to lefty infighting, it came to power because the German state preferred Fascist thugs to the possibility of socialism. The Nazi's didn't get to make their seizure of power constitutional because the German worker had to choose between two parties, but because all other major political factions in Germany preferred militaristic nationalism to pro Moscow Commissars and lefty reformers. And that all feared the power of the German working class which for better or worse was represented by these two organisations, at least in the state and federal legislatures.
The real lesson to be taken away from 1933 is that voting is not an effective weapon to fight Fascism. In pre Fascist Italy, Mussolini only four seats in the parliament before and yet he managed to seize power too. The same thing occurred in Spain, the Popular Front won the elections and yet by 1939 the Fascists were in power."
My quick notes about the process of today's test published earlier: 5 steps, 3 layers, predictible and reproducible. I'll explore more with it, I like this simplicity.

so, my area is reopening some today. commercial activity is encouraged, retail stores are allowed 50% of normal capacity, and social gatherings of less than 10 are allowed. parks are reopening.
The opinions on it I've heard today are a mix of "see I knew it was a hoax" and "are you going to X reopening party?"
I've literally never seen anything as daft as this, it's like hearing air raid sirens and opening the blinds and turning on all the lamps.
When I was 11 years old, around three thousand Americans died in one day. It was a traumatic event that changed the politics and beliefs of nearly everyone around me. My parents put out an American flag. The halal market down the street got torched. The media ran little stories about nearly every victim, making it personal to all of us.
It changed society, in many ways.
Now, three thousand Americans die every day, and we are collectively agreeing to ignore it.
Friendly reminder: "X as a service" is just a misleading corporate euphemism for "pay forever for not owning it".
"Software as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning the software".
"Games as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning games".
"Infrastructure as a service" actually means "pay forever for not owning the hardware".
And so on.
There is no "cloud", it's just other people's computers
