1. Online/organized atheism shares cultural traits with the alt-right, which makes recruiting atheists to the alt-right easier.
2. Online/organized atheism contains many individuals especially vulnerable to alt-right recruitment (young white men with a sense of grievance, or being marginalized despite their membership in privileged categories).
3. Atheist organizations have been too hesitant to condemn the alt-right.

If you include "scientific racism" and bad sexist evopsych takes under toxic "rationality" then no, it is not new. What's newer is the existence of the alt-right as a self-conscious political tendency, and intentional recruitment in atheist spaces.

@HeckTheCistem @gcupc @bentosmile MRAs too, they've been around since the 90s, at the very least (release of Bly's "Iron John" was in 1990). Including their anti-feminist wing (before it all became the anti-feminist wing, it seems).

That's just it--you don't have to. The article mentions at least three organizations (under one umbrella) doing work in this area.
