Is Jesse Kriss on Mastodon yet?
He wrote this thing about non-caplitalist//human scale software that is really great, and seems to be more or less screaming for something like Mastodon to receive wider adoption.

He'd love this stuff.
I hope I'm not too late for the #PGPDay (using the hashtag even though it probably won't register on gnu's instances) : 0x583A4C38
So I thought it'd be a cool privacy feature for Mastodon to automatically strip EXIF metadata from photos (e.g. GPS latlong, date, etc.). Turns out Eugen already thought of that! 😁 https://github.com/tootsuite/mastodon/issues/85
I even checked some uploaded photos with ImageMagick; they're all empty! BTW here's the EXIF data from a typical photo I took on my Nexus 5X. I really did have to make the text that small to fit.
:sparkles: if you have nothing but criticism to offer don't be surprised when people stop listening :sparkles:
Look, if you're going to request features or provide feedback for Amaroq I truly appreciate it and will always look to make an effort to improve the app for everyone. In fact, I try to reply to everyone's suggestions - and to that I humbly request one thing: before you hit that toot button consider you're engaging in a real conversation. Telling me how sad something is and criticizing my development priorities is no way to get your foot in the door to a pleasant conversation.
Unexpected effect of the 500 character limit: any time a toot I'm composing gets close to it, I'm tempted to put it behind a content warning so it doesn't appear in peoples' feeds as a giant wall-o-text.
I joined the community yesterday morning. Still trying to wrap my head around federation, community(ies!) norms, and lingo/terminology. Please let me know if I inadvertently transgress. And now that I think about it, i REALLY gotta work on my profile. Until I get that done, I'm: Californian, progressive, computer & library geek, father of some great kids, happily married to my best friend, and mad as hell about the radical right in the US.
And now @spiderrobotpig You’ll have to make a book: Learning French with duolinguo and Mastodon/Fediverse.
(Also wiktionary is great for linguism, traditionnal multilanguages dictionaries are trash compared to it)
For all #Mastodon users setting up their own.
Sidekiq listens single stack on 127.0.0.1.
The nginx config in the Mastodon documentation proxy passes to sidekiq with the hostname localhost, which resolves dual stack to 127.0.0.1 and ::1.
This causes timeout errors in the nginx error log as it tries to connect to ::1 fails and fall back to 127.0.0.1.
To fix this, change your nginx proxy_pass statement to use 127.0.0.1 instead of localhost.

I know that we're all anti-capitalists, but sadly we still live in a capitalist society, so maybe join me in supporting @corzntin's Patreon for our instance? (Doing this toot because I know how much it sucks to ask for donations for yourself, and our fearless leader's labour deserves to be compensated.)

Proposal: USians stop using “PST” and “EST” and start saying “UTC-8” and “UTC-5” so I can work out what actual damn time you mean in my head.
Alternately, list local and UTC?
Also it’d be great if you didn’t use “summer” and “winter” as an approximate date. Sincerely, the other hemisphere.
Reminder: if you're on 🎺.☕️, please watch the Local Timeline and welcome our newbies. Help them get settled, and teach them the Way of the Mammoth. 😁
@nitish_dayal Yeah people here are so courteous it blows my mind. 😊
@theZacAttacks i liked the suggestion of opening for a short amount of time once a day, i think we'll reopen for an hour or two tomorrow morning (PDT)
