I must have overdone it slightly with the power saving settings. When I plug an USB mouse into my laptop and stop moving it for ~5 seconds, it turns off until I press a mouse button.

I guess it's enormously low-power though…

Is there anything that provides auto photo upload functionality to ones own server like Nextcloud does, and has proper multi-accounts and sharing options, but is not as bad as Nextcloud at uploading things?

There are things I just can't seem to get uploaded, try as I might, and it's more than just frustrating…

Enabling people who are looking to hurt others

Dudes are amazing…

Years ago I saw in other hackerspaces that they had a way to detect if the space was open, and displayed that on their web sites.

I liked the idea, so I built a switch into the door and hooked it up to a Raspberry Pi, but never finished integrating with the web site, because too much stuff was going on. I documented it all in the space wiki.

Today, some dude on chat mentions that he has the brilliant new idea to display on our website whether the space is currently open…

I've encountered the perfect example of the distribution of emotional labor in families last night.

I had found a pair of kids shoes in the grass, so I brought them over to a family sitting around the fire (grandfather, father, mother, 3 kids) and asked if they were theirs.

The father said: “No, they're not ours, and we're not missing any.”
Then the grandfather: “They must be someone else's.”
Finally the mother: “Oh, Nils, aren't those your shoes? I've been looking all over! Were were they?”

Help, I appear to have sent an email into the distant past!

Discourse is the most user-hostile software in existence.

Most software is just hard to use because it doesn't care.

Discourse actively punishes people for having the audacity to try to use it.

Jeff Atwood professes "complaint-driven development", but most of his development practices seem to be centered around preventing people from giving feedback and punishing them if they slip through.

I'm surprised so many open source projects are using a forum software that does this.
