Is there anything that provides auto photo upload functionality to ones own server like Nextcloud does, and has proper multi-accounts and sharing options, but is not as bad as Nextcloud at uploading things?
There are things I just can't seem to get uploaded, try as I might, and it's more than just frustrating…
Serial harasser warning/ instance block recommendation
Fascists from Gab are now setting up their own Fedi servers in order to harass marginalized people. This one is a known rapist and his instance is freevoice.space
Thx to @denikombucha for finding this
Mauna Kea protectors
"They've taken everything from us Hawaiians. This illegal government taking fish from our oceans. There's not enough food for people. People are on the streets. There's no housing for our people, poisoning our farmland, now they're taking away our sacred mountain. That's the last straw they're not gonna take this mountain," Walter Ritte, who chained himself to the cattle guard, said."

re: Ro and Moonlighting with Bigots
@Are0h They didn't "trip and fall" into these ideas, they like the feeling of being violent and hateful and they like having a worldview that is fundamentally incompatible with human safety and thriving (even their own).
That's why the pleas for us to federate with fash to "help them" escape their terrible ideas are worse than useless. They don't want to escape, they don't want help. They just want to spread their failure and violence as far as possible.
re: Ro and Moonlighting with Bigots
@Are0h Your analysis explains something I never quite understood, which is how much time and effort they dedicate to self-indoctrination with violently incompetent ideas. Centrists frequently paint nazis as passive victims of "being exposed" to bad ideas. But from what I observed, nazis and other racists dedicate huge amounts of time to specifically seeking out, consuming, and supporting fash from JP to Sam Harris.
Enabling people who are looking to hurt others
When you enable and defend Nazis, racist and white supremacists, you're clearly telling us that you are okay with us getting harassed, abused and/or killed.
There's nothing to discuss here.
No, I'm not calling everyone I disagree with a Nazi, but as soon as you make excuses for them you're an apologist, as soon as you enable them you're an enabler.
Dudes are amazing…
Years ago I saw in other hackerspaces that they had a way to detect if the space was open, and displayed that on their web sites.
I liked the idea, so I built a switch into the door and hooked it up to a Raspberry Pi, but never finished integrating with the web site, because too much stuff was going on. I documented it all in the space wiki.
Today, some dude on chat mentions that he has the brilliant new idea to display on our website whether the space is currently open…
I've encountered the perfect example of the distribution of emotional labor in families last night.
I had found a pair of kids shoes in the grass, so I brought them over to a family sitting around the fire (grandfather, father, mother, 3 kids) and asked if they were theirs.
The father said: “No, they're not ours, and we're not missing any.”
Then the grandfather: “They must be someone else's.”
Finally the mother: “Oh, Nils, aren't those your shoes? I've been looking all over! Were were they?”
Discourse is the most user-hostile software in existence.
Most software is just hard to use because it doesn't care.
Discourse actively punishes people for having the audacity to try to use it.
Jeff Atwood professes "complaint-driven development", but most of his development practices seem to be centered around preventing people from giving feedback and punishing them if they slip through.
I'm surprised so many open source projects are using a forum software that does this.
Heidegger and Coming Out
Sara Ahmed uses Heidegger to look at queerness in a spatial context. She contends that queerness is a turning against, a moving differently.
She does not engage with the element of authenticity, and that to me is essential to understanding coming out in a Heideggerian manner.
Coming out is a process of separation from das Man. The Queer Dasein is haunted by its queerness and the absence of openness is the guilt to which a Queer Dasein can respond to. Importantly,
Hawaii, US pol, birdsite
I'm a little disappointed to not see anything about Mauna Kea on the fediverse. This is probably an eyeballs/number of users/ thing.
The U.S. government has approved construction of a telescope on land sacred to native Hawaiians, who are at this moment rallying a protest with lockdown to try and stop construction vehicles from desecrating their land. Search #MaunaKea on birdsite for more.
meta, nazis, neg
I feel very very very uncomfortable that a nazi can find and interact with my posts. Even if I have them blocked. They can find my posts by opening a new window and screenshot them and still spread them around to the rest of their nazi friends.
and that terrifies me.
And I will never know, because I can't get their notifications. They could be tagging me in things right now to point out to their nazi friends who to attack.
and i'll never know.
so Kiwi Farms has set up an instance here and I would like to explain why this is very bad, worse than gab in my opinion. for those who don't know, Kiwi Farms is a community dedicated to finding neurodivergent people, and making a spectacle out of mocking them, harassing them, doxing them and documenting everything they do. they are most well known for their harassment of 'Chris Chan', a lower functioning autistic trans woman who has been internet 'famous for about a decade and that's all down to their documentation of her and continuous harassment.
kiwi farms is bad news, they're dangerous, more so than the edgy memelords of gab.
Main account. Do arts, be antifascist. Loves birds, trains and technology.
Anticapitalist Mastodon instance. Party means fun, not political party. But we're still political.
