Bullying and Abuse (checklist from Christopher Tucker) Show more
This is from Christopher Tucker, a black man with "high-functioning" autism. It's from "All The Weight of Our Dreams", a POC autistics anthology I tooted about a few days ago.

Bullying and Abuse
I'm sick of the bullying and abuse of people on the autism spectrum so here's a list:
1. If someone says they have an autism spectrum disorder, back off and apologize.
2. Don't call autism an excuse. You don't know what they go through.
3. Try to give them a break. They don't know social situations like you do.
4. There is no cure for autism, it's a part of them.

5. People on the autism spectrum learn social situations. If they make a mistake, let them know and they will not do it again.
6. They can't control autism, so don't tell them to do it.
7. How can something somebody's born with be an excuse?

8. No two autistic people are the same.
9. Finally, be supportive and help them when they need help.
