Please stop voting for white men. Under all circumstances. For any elected position. For the foreseeable future. Period.
Thank you in advance.

So, I received a number of responses to this post.
Many of them took the general form of the "I only get given the choice of two white men when I vote."
I feel you. I do.
I encourage you to reject this false binary premise. If your local political organizations are only propping up the status quo, no number of "I voted!" stickers will bring about change. Change takes work.
It's easy for me to say "please stop electing white men in the United States". It's much harder to create a political environment where that's a simple option, where there are qualified candidates who are visible to the electorate at large and whose voices are allowed to be heard over the shouting of the power brokers.
This isn't about midterm elections, or the Supreme Court, or 2020.
This isn't about party lines.
This is about taking a serious look at the organization and logistics of the power structures in place in your life, your communities, and seeing where the opportunities to bring about positive change exist.
Most days, my personal opinion leans firmly toward the belief that there are major structural issues with our current forms of governance in this country. I tend to think that the systems put in place over the last couple hundred years are woefully inadequate as a representation of who we are and what we want out of life, for ourselves and for each other. I'm not interested in starting a violent revolution. I'm not interested in violence in general, frankly. It's literally a brute force attempt at finding a solution to a problem and haphazard at best, in my opinion. But this isn't even about my personal political beliefs at large.
I've made my request: please do not continue electing white men to public office.
It's not an easy request to fulfill.
I'm asking you to consider it anyway, knowing that it's a major undertaking, knowing that it's a long shot, knowing that it will take many decades to have any real effects for the quality of life of most of the residents of this part of the world. I don't expect to see it happen in my lifetime. That doesn't mean it doesn't need doing.
I demand nothing of you. I am in no position to demand anything of you. I do not want to be in such a position.
But my request, I stand by it.
Now, I'm going to go back to my normal routine of keeping my mouth generally shut about politics; I have never enjoyed the political sphere and my voice isn't an important one on the topic anyway.
Your voice is.
Thanks for your time and consideration. I do appreciate it.
Anticapitalist Mastodon instance. Party means fun, not political party. But we're still political.
