Building MongoDB from source for Debian 9 because there are no official packages for v3.6 :
Is it a good or bad idea?
@cwood looks nice but I have no idea of how to do it, and I remember the only time I packaged something for the AUR, I almost got insulted by some people lol
@smonff You can skip ahead a bit by using FPM (https://github.com/jordansissel/fpm), if I quickly need a package of something that's what I use.
@cwood OK thanks
@cwood the README file says « Community: If a newbie has a bad time, it's a bug.
»
This is a very positive thing.
@smonff Mongo provides their own packages. https://docs.mongodb.com/manual/tutorial/install-mongodb-on-debian/
@href yes, except for Debian 9
@smonff rhalala debian…
@smonff what about Docker ? It would deploy what ever version of mongodb you want in an isolated container
@vied12 thanx. It's for short term usage and I have no idea how to use Docker for now, but also on the way to think about it ^^
@smonff As long as you package it (in a deb) for posterity, it's a good idea. (And store it away from the current machine, etc. etc.)
